Our Story 25+ years of excellence

FTC International Consulting was founded in 1999 by Walter Dullemond, a microbiologist with extensive food industry experience dating back to 1987. What began as a specialized consulting practice in food ingredient technology and applications has grown into a comprehensive food consulting firm serving clients throughout North America.

The Early Years: Walter’s career in the food industry started in 1987, working in technical capacities across various sectors of food manufacturing. His hands-on experience in food ingredient technology, product development, and regulatory affairs provided the foundation for what would become FTC International. By 1999, Walter recognized a critical need in the market: food businesses—particularly small and medium-sized manufacturers—needed accessible, expert guidance to navigate increasingly complex food labeling and regulatory requirements.

Growth and Expansion: Since our founding, FTC International has evolved from a one-person consulting practice into a team of specialized food science professionals. In 2004, Eva Savova joined FTC as a senior technical consultant and later became Vice President and Partner. Her expertise in chemistry, combined with her deep knowledge of sports nutrition and regulatory affairs, significantly expanded our capabilities and service offerings.

Building Expertise: Over the past 25 years, we’ve worked on thousands of projects spanning virtually every food category imaginable—from sports nutrition beverages and protein powders to ice cream, dairy products, meat products, fermented foods, sauces, specialty ingredients, and innovative plant-based alternatives. We’ve helped build processing facilities (including international projects in South-East Asia), guided companies through CFIA license applications, developed complete product lines from concept to commercialization, and ensured regulatory compliance for products entering markets across North America.

Today: FTC International now serves as a trusted partner to food manufacturers, pet food companies, cosmetic brands, and natural health product developers across Canada and the United States. Our office in Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, serves as the hub for our operations, but our reach extends throughout Western Canada, the Greater Vancouver area, and across North America through remote consulting services.

Our Commitment: We remain committed to the principles that guided our founding: providing expert, accessible, and personalized food consulting services that help businesses succeed. Whether you’re a startup launching your first product or an established corporation expanding into new markets, we bring the same level of dedication, expertise, and attention to detail to every project.

Our Consulting Approach: Personalized, Practical, and Results-Driven

At FTC International, we believe that effective consulting goes beyond technical knowledge—it requires understanding your business, your goals, and your unique challenges. Our approach is built on these core principles:

1. Personalized Service We’re not a large, impersonal consulting firm where your project gets passed through multiple layers. When you work with FTC International, you work directly with experienced senior consultants—Walter and Eva—who personally handle your project from start to finish. This ensures consistency, expertise, and accountability at every step.

2. Practical Solutions Our recommendations are grounded in real-world manufacturing experience. We understand that regulatory compliance must be balanced with commercial viability, manufacturing feasibility, and cost-effectiveness. We don’t just tell you what the regulations say—we help you find practical ways to meet requirements while achieving your business objectives.

3. Clear Communication Food regulations can be complex and technical. We pride ourselves on explaining regulatory requirements in clear, accessible language. Whether you’re a food science expert or a business owner without technical training, we ensure you understand the “why” behind our recommendations, not just the “what.”

4. Proactive Guidance We don’t wait for problems to arise. Our consulting approach anticipates potential issues and addresses them before they become costly mistakes. Whether it’s identifying potential label compliance issues, flagging formulation concerns, or recommending process improvements, we help you avoid problems rather than just fixing them after the fact.

5. Long-Term Partnership Many of our clients have worked with us for years—even decades. We build lasting relationships based on trust, reliability, and consistent results. As your business grows and evolves, we’re here to support your changing needs, from your first product launch to international expansion.

6. Fast Turnaround Without Compromising Quality We understand that time-to-market matters. Our typical label review turnaround is 3-5 business days, with rush services available when needed. But speed never comes at the expense of thoroughness—every project receives the careful attention it deserves.

7. Integrated Expertise Food businesses rarely need just one type of consulting. You might need label compliance, nutrition analysis, and product development support all for the same project. At FTC International, our integrated expertise means we can handle multiple aspects of your project seamlessly, ensuring consistency across all deliverables.
